DIRECTORATE OF AERONAUTICAL INSPECTION

A revised organization of the Directorate of Aeronautical Inspection was approved with effect from the 1st September, 1927. The revised list of staff and distribution of duties is as follows :

  1. Inspection of all aeronautical supplies purchased by the Air Ministry, including aircraft (heavier and lighter than air), aircraft engines, their spares, accessories and materials used therein during manufacture and after completion, prior to their acceptance for the Royal Air Force.
  2. Inspection of RAF armament stores other than those for which the Admiralty are responsible.
  3. Periodical inspection of ammunition and explosives held by RAF units at home and abroad.
  4. Inspection of all general stores and supplies purchased by the Air Ministry.
  5. Inspection of aeronautical and other supplies undertaken by the Air Ministry for Dominion, Colonial and Foreign Governments.
  6. Inspection of all civil "type " aircraft, their engines and accessories, and supervision of inspection by constructors of civil "subsequent " aircraft, engines and accessories, at home and abroad. The re-inspection of civil aircraft for renewal of certificate of airworthiness.
  7. Examination for the licensing of ground engineers and the technical supervision of their work.
