Notes

At the end of 1942 it was a dual-role station engaged on air reporting and surface watching, manned by the Navy, it had also been allocated 10cm Mk III equipment and high power transmitters.

It was re-activated as part of the post war ROTOR programme opening in early/mid 1950s

With the installation of the Type 80 equipment, the station was renamed No 91 Signals Unit on 27 September 1957, but reverted to RAF Saxa Vord in 1984.

From April 2001 it was downgraded to a Remote Radar Head (RRH) as a ADGE Reporting Centre, subordinate to RAF Buchan, but it regained Station Status, but reverted to fully-manned status on 2 April 2004.   However, it closed on 4 March 2006, and much of the site was sold off.  In September 2017 it was decided to re-activate the site as a RRH and it re-opened in 2019.

Station badges on this page are courtesy of Dave Clifford except those marked #

Badges marked # have been produced by Mary Denton on behalf of the RAF Heraldry Trust and are displayed on this page with the permission of the RAFHT.  Mary Denton and the RAFHT have probably completed half of the 'official' badges authorised but are still looking for sponsorship for the remaining badges. The work continues and details can be found on their website.
