This site was originally named Bury St Edmunds, replacing the the civil aerodrome near the town, which been renamed Westley in July 1941.  However, in December 1941, whilst under construction it was renamed again, this time as RAF Rougham, but this was rescinded in January 1942 and it reverted to Bury St Edmunds.
