Organisational Movements: Sep - Dec 1940

Date Notes
19 Sep 1940 With an increasing number of US nationals joining the RAF as pilots, it was decided to place these in a dedicated squadron.  As a result No 71 (Eagle) Squadron was formed at RAF Church Fenton. 
24 Oct 1940 It had been planned to equip te squadron with Spitfires but when its first aircraft arrived, they were Brewster Buffaloes
Buffalo I
 7 Nov 1940 Squadron commenced re-equipment with Hawker Hurrices
Hurricane I of No 71 Squadron ( early 1941)
23 Nov 1940 Squadron moved from RAF Church Fenton to RAF Kirton in Lindsey
