10 Jun 1935 Formed Sywell as No 6 Elementary and Reserve Flying Training School, it was operated by Brooklands Aviation Ltd
24 Apr 1937 RAFVR formed and training of airmen in this branch commenced on both elementary and Service types
xx Feb 1938 It was placed in No 26 Group
 1 Feb 1939 Transferred from No 26 Group to No 50 Group
xx Jun 1939 Training of RAFVR Air Observers and Air Gunners commenced
 3 Sep 1939 No 6 E&RFTS was redesignated No 6 Elementary Flying Training School in No 51 Group
 3 Sep 1939 Strength of school on this date: -
  • 25 x Tiger Moths

Tiger Moth - early WW2 scheme

  • 5 x Hart Variants

Hart Trainer

  • 3 x Ansons

Anson I Trainer - early WW2 trainer scheme

 3 Sep 1939 RAFVR personnel were posted and the school reverted to 'Ab Initio' training
23 Oct 1939 No 1 (War) Ab Initio Course commenced
 1 Jan 1940 All Flying Instructors (RAFO) were mobilised
 1 Jan 1940 Aircraft strength - 54 Tigers Moths
 7 Jul 1940 Transferred from No 51 Group to No 50 Group and unit ordered to open an ORB
 7 Sep 1940 No 8 War Course completed and posted as follows: -
  • 20 x pupils - No 12 SFTS, RAF Grantham
  •  8 x pupils - RAF College FTS, Cranwell
  •  7 x pupils - No 9 SFTS, RAF Hullavington
  • 10 x pupils - No 5 SFTS, RAF Sealand
  • 15 x pupils suspended from training
 7 Sep 1940 No 10 War Course commenced (60 x pupils from No 5 ITW)
