05-Mar CHAMBERS, GEOFFREY PENDER  (41308) RNZAF - age 21 Plt Off He was killed whilst flying in Wellington IC, Z1042 'S' of No 70 Sqn, which crashed in the desert near Bomba and was destroyed by fire during a raid on Benghazi.  He is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial.

05-Mar KIDSON, MARCUS WILLIAM TERENCE  (115800) RAFVR - age 20 Plt Off He was killed whilst flying in Hurricane IIA, Z2402 of No 126 Sqn, which was shot down into the sea by Bf 109s off Malta.  He is commemorated on the Malta Memorial.
05-Mar DAY, WILFRED ARTHUR  (1114611) RAFVR - age 31 AC2 He was serving with No 232 Sqn and was lost at sea during the evacuation from Singapore.  He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.
05-Mar ROLFE, NORMAN JACK  (1377013) RAFVR - age 22 Sgt He was killed whilst flying in Blenheim IV, R3839 of No 254 Sqn, which flew into high ground near Carew Cheriton.  He is buried in Accrington Cemetery.
05-Mar BANKS, HAROLD  (980452) RAFVR - age 24 Sgt He was killed whilst flying in Blenheim IV, R3839 of No 254 Sqn, which flew into high ground near Carew Cheriton.  He is buried in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (St Andrew's and Jesmond) Cemetery.
05-Mar McPHERSON, JAMES QUAR  (1054475) RAFVR - age 29 Sgt He was killed whilst flying in Blenheim IV, R3839 of No 254 Sqn, which flew into high ground near Carew Cheriton.  He is buried in Pembroke Dock (Llanion) Cemetery.
05-Mar ST. HILAIRE, RENE JOSEPH AUGUSTE GERARD  (R/104575) RCAF - age 23 AC1 He was serving with No 409 Sqn, and died in the RAF Hospital at Rauceby after being hit by an Army lorry on the Lincoln-Sleaford road (A15).  He is buried in Scopwick Church Burial Ground.
05-Mar PAULSEN, JOHN MCKECHNIE  (109325) RAF - age 34 Plt Off He was serving with No 151 MU, and was killed by a direct bomb hit on an airfield in Cilacap, Indonesia.  He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.
05-Mar HEBDITCH, KENNETH NOEL  (1187258) RAFVR - age 23 Sgt He was killed whilst flying in Tomahawk IIA, AH957 of No 71 OTU, which dived into the ground near Gordons Tree whilst carrying out aerobatics.  He is buried in Khartoum War Cemetery.
05-Mar FREER, STANLEY WILLIAM  (1094970) RAFVR - age Unknown LAC He was serving at Alor Star, and was reported killed by enemy action at Tilajap.  He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.
05-Mar HUGHES, FRED  (620709) RAF - age 32 Cpl He was travelling aboard HMT Kota Gede, and died from dengue fever whilst travlling from Sumatra to Colombo.  He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.
05-Mar MURRAY, DAVID MATTHEW SINCLAIR  (551162) RAF - age 21 Sgt He was serving at RAF Redhill as an armourer and died there as the resiult of a self inflicted gunshot wound.  He was cremated atAberdeen Crematorium.
05-Mar ARTHUR, RUPERT TOM GUY  (66048) RAFVR - age 41 Fg Off He was serving at Tongal and was reported to have been a battle casualty in the fighting in Java.  He is buried in Jakarta War Cemetery.
06-Mar APPLEBY, BRUCE  (40955) RNZAF - age 22 Flt Sgt He was killed whilst flying in Vildebeest III, ? of No 36 Sqn, which crashed into a paddy field on its return from a raid on the airfield at Kalidjati, having been damaged in the attack and ten suffering an engine failure.  He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.
06-Mar SHEA, DENIS JOSEPH  (925195) RAFVR - age Unknown AC1 He was serving with No 84 Sqn, and was killed whilst evacuating Tjilatjap when the train he was travelling on was ambushed, whilst crossing the bridge over the River Serajoe at Kesogihan as it was demolished by Dutch troops..  He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.
06-Mar ANDERSON, NEIL  (103705V) SAAF - age 21 Lt He was flying a Hurricane of No 242 Sqn, which failed to return from an attack on the Japanese airfield at Kalidjati on 4 Mar 1942, it is thought he died in captivity.  He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.
06-Mar FARRELL, ALEXANDER HAMILTON  (979215) RAFVR - age Unknown AC1 He was serving with No 286 Sqn and died in the RAF Hospital, St. Athan from pulmonary tuberculosis.  He is buried in Stranaer (Glebe) Cemetery.
06-Mar BINDING, DONALD JAMES  (906685) RAFVR - age 22 AC5 He had been serving with No 151 MU and was probably killed whilst evacuating Tjilatjap either when the train they were travelling on was ambushed, whilst crossing the bridge over the River Serajoe at Kesogihan when it was demolished by Dutch troops, or being massacred by Japanese troops having been injured in the previous events.  He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.

06-Mar SMITH, SYDNEY JOSEPH  (1091853) RAFVR - age 27 LAC He was serving as a Cook & Butcher with No 26 OTU and was found to be dead on admission to the RAF Hosptal, Halton after he had been knocked over by a cyclist at Marsworth at night.  He is buried in Kirton New Cemetery.

07-Mar LEES, HARRY  (1154650) RAFVR - age 30 LAC He was killed whilst flying in Hampden I, AE387 of No 50 Sqn, which swung on take off from Skellingthorpe and burst into flames on a training sortie.  He is buried in Leicester (Welford Road) Cemetery.
07-Mar  (P782480) PAF - age 22 Flt Sgt He was killed whilst flying in Spitfire VB, P8564 of No 317 Sqn, which exploded in the air over Marlborough, Devon.  He is buried in Exeter Higher Cemetery.
07-Mar WHITTAKER, JAMES  (530110) RAF - age 27 Sgt He was serving with No 972 Sqn and died in No 2 CCS from injuries sustained when he fell from a window In Haifa.  He is buried in Khayat Beach War Cemetery.
07-Mar HILTON, THOMAS  (1535907) RAFVR - age 20 AC2 He was serving with No 1 Wing, ? and died in York Fever Hospital from cerebrospinal meningitis.  He is buried in Standish (St Marie) Roman Catholic Churchyard.
07-Mar STRICKLAND, WALTER CLAUDE  (1254032) RAFVR - age Unknown AC1 He had been serving with No 151 MU and probably killed whilst evacuating Tjilatjap either when the train they were travelling on was ambushed, whilst crossing the bridge over the River Serajoe at Kesogihan when it was demolished by Dutch troops, or being massacred by Japanese troops having been injured in the previous events..  He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.
07-Mar HURLEY, MARTIN MAHER  (R/64892) RCAF - age 21 Sgt He was killed whilst flying in Beaufighter IC, T3231 of No 2 (C) OTU Sqn, which crashed on the approach to Catfoss following an engine failure on his firstsolo on type.  He is buried in Brandesburton (St Mary) Churchyard.
07-Mar CRAPPER, CHARLES ALLAN  (656335) RAF - age Unknown Cpl He was serving with No 37 SFTS and died in the Bowness Sanitorium, Calgary from tubercular meningitis.  He was cremated atGolders Green Crematorium.
07-Mar NAYLOR, KEITH TURTON  (536822) RAF - age 24 Sgt He was serving at RAF Hunsdon and died from injuries in Haymeads Hospital, Bishops Stortford sustained after being hit by a motor lorry.  He is buried in Childwall (All Saints) Churchyard.
07-Mar OGBOURNE, ERNEST STANLEY  (1472635) RAFVR - age Unknown AC2 He was serving at RAF Hutton Cranswick and died from atheroma of the coronary artery.  He is buried in Southgate Cemetery.
07-Mar JOHNSON, CLARENCE MELVILLE  (1031258) RAFVR - age 25 LAC He was serving at Napier Field, Dothan and was killed in a car accident whilst off duty.  He is buried in Americus (Oak Grove) Cemetery.
07-Mar JEFFERY, HERBERT ALBERT  (1537862) RAFVR - age 20 AC2 He was serving in the Far East and was reported to have been killed whilst evacuating Tjilatjap when the train he was travelling on was ambushed whilst crossing the bridge over the River Serajoe at Kesogihan as it was demolished by Dutch troops.  He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.
