He had been a patient at the Haslar RN Hospital suffering from nervous debility and was found at the foot of the cliffs at Beachy Head.  A verdict of suicide was returned.

He was killed whilst flying Hawker Fury I, K2064 of No 1 Sqn when he collided with another aircraft, K2036 of the same squadron during a formation change.  His aircraft caught fire and crashed near Shoreham, the pilot of K2036 successfully abandoned the aircraft.

He was killed whilst flying Blackburn Ripon, S1560 of No 466 Flt, HMS Furious near Portree, Isle of Skye.  He dived into the sea during a practice bombing run.  His observer, Lt J Newsham RN was also killed.

He was possibly undertaking the Officers' Aeronautical Engineering course at RAF Henlow when he was transferred to the RAF Hospital, Halton with a severe attack of pleurisy.  Three after being admitted he was found on the ground underneath the window of his ward, dying later that night from his injuries.
