Citation for the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross

AMLOT, Douglas Lloyd, F/O - Distinguished Flying Cross - awarded as per London Gazette dated 22 November 1938,

"for gallant and distinguished services rendered in Palestine". 

Reported in Aeroplane of 30 November 1938; No.6 (Bomber) Squadron, Ramleh. Public Record Office WO 373.106 Part 4 has recommendation submitted by Interdepartmental Awards Committee on 28 October 1938; unit confirmed as No.6 (Bomber) Squadron:

"For gallant conduct at Dair Ghassana in the 15th September 1938, and for exceptionally valuable service rendered in Palestine during the last two years."

Recommendation for the award of the Air Force Cross

AMLOT, Douglas Lloyd, A/G/C, DFC (Royal Air Force) - Station Thornhill, Rhodesian Air Training Group - Air Force Cross - awarded as per London Gazette dated 14 June 1945. Public Record Office Air 2/8771 has citation drafted when he had flown 1,729 instructional hours, 70 in previous six months.

"Group Captain Amlot is Station Commander at Thornhill.  He has served in this Command for 4 ½ years during which he has been employed as Chief Instructor at an “Oxford: school, and as Wing Commander, Air Staff, Training He has also commanded an Elementary Flying Training School.  He has at all times set a fine example both in the air and on the ground.  During his last year in command of a “Harvard” school he raised the standard of flying to a remarkable degree, particularly in applied flying."
