Photos - RAF Hinaidi and Iraq


The photos on this page are from the collection of Air Commodore (then a Plt Off/Fg Off) D W F Bonham-Carter CB, DFC courtesy of his grandson, Jim Cownie.  They depict aircraft and personnel photographed in Iraq between 1922 and 1924, where it has not been possible to identify the actual people or units, but were probably taken at RAF Hinaidi.

The French crew of Breguet Bre.19 No.3
reguet 16.Bn2 'Patria' of Portuguese Commander Brito Pais and Captain Sarmento de Beires 
Breguet 16.Bn2 'Patria' of Portuguese Commander Brito Pais and Captain Sarmento de Beires departed Lisbon on 7 April 1924 in their an attempt to fly around the world eastbound.  The aircraft is shown at Hinaidi en-route but it later crashed in India,
