RAF Coleby Grange began as a Relief Landing Ground for RAF Cranwell in the late 1930s, but from May 1940 it also played host to detachments of squadrons from RAF Digby. In May 1941 it was officially transferred to RAF Digby as its second satellite (also known as WCII) in No 12 Group, Fighter Command.
