The ORB for No 986 Sqn commences on 1 Dec 1942, and there is no mention of any activity prior to this date, so the formation of the unit in the UK was probably cancelled
 1 Dec 1942 Nos 2 and 4 Beach Balloon Units and 'K' Port Balloon Unit Detachment were formed into a new squadron in Augusta
11 Dec 1942 Squadron was redesignated 'X' Sqn
