28 Jan 1941 No 972 Squadron formed at RAF Cardington.

Personnel commenced arriving

29 Jan 1941 Personnel sent on embarkation leave
February
 2 Feb 1941 Personnel returned from embarkation leave
 4 Feb 1941 Kit despatched to Cardington Railway Station
 5 Feb 1941 Personnel entrained at Cardington Station for Liverpool
 6 Feb 1941 Personnel embarked on SS 'Yoma', which was still in the process of being fitted out
 7 Feb 1941 Following unrest all troops were transferred to SS 'Strathmore'
 8 Feb 1941 After further work being carried out, personnel were transferred back to SS 'Yoma' and set sail, but missed its convoy
 9 Feb 1941 SS 'Yoma' proceeded back to Liverpool to await another convoy
10 Feb 1941 SS 'Yoma' arrived back in Liverpool with personnel disembarking and proceeding to No 2 PDC, Wilmslow
16 Feb 1941 Personnel entrained at Wilmslow for Liverpool and re-embarked on SS 'Yoma'
17 Feb 1941 SS 'Yoma' set sail from Liverpool

25 Jun 1941 Orderly Room Staff, 1 x MTM and Adjutant proceeded to Kantara
26 Jun 1941 Balloon Operators, Armourers, Clerks/Acct and Cooks proceeded to Kantara
27 Jun 1941 Remainder of squadron proceeded to Kantara

 2 Jul 1941 Silicol plant arrived and installation commenced
 6 Jul 1941 Silicol plant commenced producing Hydrogen
11 Jul 1941 A detachment ('B' Flight) of three crews and a hydrogen plant proceeded to RAF Abu Sueir

10 Aug 1941 1 x officer, 1 x Cpl and 6 x airmen proceeded to Le Cap Canal Station to prepare sites

14 Sep 1941 'B' Flight moved from RAF Abu Sueir to RAF Ismailia
