15 Oct 1942 No 510 Squadron was formed at RAF Hendon in No 44 Group, Ferry Command to relieve No 24 Sqn of light communications tasks
'A' & 'B' Flights were formed and equipped as follows: -

'A' Flight

6 + 0 Stinson Reliants
  • 1 for priority use of AM (DAFL)
  • 1 for priority use of AM (O9)
8 + 0 Proctors
  • 2 for use of AVM Robb and Staff,
  • 1 for use of USA Observer Group (Embassy)
  • 2 for use of USA Naval Air Attaché,
  • 1 for MAP (CRD),
  • 1 for MAP Staff Officers,
  • 1 for priority use of GHQ Home Forces

  • For priority use of AN (AS3)
1 + 0 Mohawk
  • For use of CRD and staff MAP HQ
1 + 0 DH89A
  • For use of MAP (D Arm D)
2 + 0 Civil Tiger Moths
  • For use of London University Air Sqn

'B' Flight

  • 1 for use of MAP Emergency Powers Committee

Servicing was carried out by Maintenance Wing, RAF Hendon, also formed on this date
19 Oct 1942 The DH89 was deleted and replaced by 1 + 0 Oxford
November
 4 Nov 1942 The Reliant 'for priority use of AM (O9)' was replaced by 1 + 0 Anson, but the number of Reliants remained unchanged

'1 for use of USA Observer Group (Embassy)' was deleted from the Proctors, but the number of Proctors remained unchanged

 9 Nov 1942 '2 for use of USA Naval Air Attaché' was deleted with a consequent reduction in the number of Proctors
