Casualties - January - December 1926


This section covers RAF personnel killed between 1 January and 31 December 1926.  The information has been gleaned from a variety of sources including the Commonwealth War Graves registers, Air Force Lists, Flight magazine and a variety of other publications and books.  Entries in italics indicated that exact confirmation of these details have not yet been confirmed.

He was flying Flycatcher, N9892 of No 402 Flt, when it spun into the ground at Hal Far in Malta on 10 Feb 1926.  He died from his injuries the following day.

He was flying as a passenger in an unidentified DH9A of No 4 FTS, when the aircraft stalled after spinning at Abu Sueir.  The pilot, Sgt R Horrocks was also killed.  He is buried in Ismailia War Memorial Cemetery.

He was the pilot of an unidentified DH9A of No 4 FTS and was seriously injured when the aircraft stalled after spinning and crashed at Abu Sueir.  He died later that day and is buried in Ismailia War Memorial Cemetery. His passenger, Plt Off Sweeting was also killed.

He was the pilot of Vimy, F9184 of the Inland Aircraft Depot at Halton, which was involved in a mid-air collision with Avro 504K, H9535 piloted by Fg Off W Scott, also of the Inland Aircraft Depot.  Lacey and his three crew were all killed in the ensuing crash.

He was the one of the crew of Vimy, F9184 of the Inland Aircraft Depot at Halton, piloted by Fg Off C V Lacey, which was involved in a mid-air collision with Avro 504K, H9535 , piloted by Fg Off W Scott.  All the crew of the Vimy were killed in the ensuing crash.

PACKMAN, STANLEY ARTHUR RAFO

He had been a Major during WW1 and was employed as an instructor with the Newcastle Flying Club at the time of his death.  He was flying a Gull monoplane and came over the airfield at low level.  Attempting to avoid a small building he appears to have stalled and dived into the ground, being thrown from the aircraft and landing on his head, fracturing his skull and was killed.

He was flying as a passenger in Vernon, J7143 of No 45 Sqn when the starboard engine failed on take off at Hinaidi, crashing into No 1 Sqn hanger on the airfield.  He was killed in the crash.  During WW1 he was credited with 13 victories (although Flight in 1926 quoted 32).  He is buried in Ma'asker Al Raschid R.A.F. Cemetery.

The OC of No 6 Armoured Car Company, he was flying as a passenger in Vernon, J7143 of No 45 Sqn when the starboard engine failed on take off at Hinaidi, crashing into No 1 Sqn hanger on the airfield.  He was killed in the crash.  He is buried in Ma'asker Al Raschid R.A.F. Cemetery.
