Casualties - January - December 1924


This section covers RAF personnel killed between 1 January and 31 December 1924.  The information has been gleaned from a variety of sources including the Commonwealth War Graves registers, Air Force Lists, Flight magazine and a variety of other publications and books.  Entries in italics indicated that exact confirmation of these details have not yet been confirmed.

He was killed flying as the observer in Parnell Panther, N7461 of No 442 Flt, which went over the side of HMS Argus on take off.  His pilot, Plt Off R Lewes was slightly injured.  He is buried in Mallorca and part of the aircraft's propeller has been placed as a memorial to him (see photos below).

He was killed whilst flying Bristol F2B, F4572 of No 13 Sqn which crashed at Penton Mewsey, Wiltshire.  Flying at 2,000 ft he began a spiral descent, but failed to flatten out and consequently flew into the ground.  LAC Turton was also killed in this crash.
