On 9 November 1921 he was slightly injured whilst flying in Parnall Panther, N7468.  The aircraft was about to fly off the turret of HMS Repulse for a fleet reconnaissance and as the pilot was running up the engine but before he was ready to slip, the port wing tilted up and the quick release wire carried away, the machine toppling over the side of the turret, crashing on No 1 electric bollard on the fore-castle deck.
