Citation for the award of Companion of the Order of the Bath

"HOPPS, Frank Linden, AVM, CBE, AFC  - No.16 Group, Coastal Command.

This officer has been in command of the Group since July 1943. Its chief duty prior to the invasion was to attack enemy shipping off the Dutch coast and to maintain the "Channel Stop".  Air Vice-Marshal Hopps displayed remarkable keenness and energy in carrying out these operations which were highly successful.  At the commencement of the invasion the Group was called upon to assume additional responsibilities, namely the protection of our invasion convoys against the considerable force of enemy "E" boats concentrated in the Eastern Channel and on the Dutch and Belgian coasts.  The Group has succeeded in protecting the many large invasion convoys and this has undoubtedly contributed much to the success of the invasion operations. The fine work carried out by No.16 Group can be attributed largely to the drive, energy and skilful planning of Air Vice-Marshal Hopps."
